We LOVE "Friendsday WEdnesdays! But in order to more effectively distribute our (limited) resources and availability, we are going to pause this feature at this time in order to focus more targeted attention on some other pressing matters that require our time and labor. We might bring this feature back in the future either in this capacity or a different one, but we intend to still be a mechanism for highlighting the work of advocates around the world. So, for our last feature, we bring you Camp Hope!
Kids and trained counselors partake in canoeing, horseback riding, zip line, swimming, volleyball, wheelchair basketball, petting zoo, rock wall, bonfires, makeover/photo shoot, and a dance. Friendships are made that last a lifetime, and most importantly, the kids learn that they are not alone and that being HIV+ is NOTHING to be ashamed of.
Camp Hope is absolutely FREE of charge to all participants. Directed by Margarita Perez, it is a program of AIDS Foundation Houston, and relies upon the generosity of the counselors, doctors, nurses, social workers, case managers, college students, and others who dedicate a week of their lives each year to making the camp successful. Donations to keep Camp Hope in operation are ALWAYS needed and are fully tax deductible!
Please visit them online at http://www.aidshelp.org/?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1027to learn more and/or make a donation. Also, watch this great video about the camp!
