National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NNHAAD) is a national mobilization effort held annually on March 20th designed to encourage Natives (American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians) across the United States and Territorial Areas to get educated, get tested, get involved in prevention and get treated for HIV and AIDS.
Despite only comprising a small percentage of the US population, Native populations are disproportionately represented in the amount of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Additionally, AIDS related illnesses are the 9th leading cause of death among Native adults in their 20's and 30's.
